Thai Union Employees Join Beach Clean Up on Thailand’s East Coast

22 August 2019, RAYONG – Employees from Thai Union Group PCL joined a beach clean up activity at Ban Pe Beach on Thailand’s east coast, as part of the company’s efforts to support local communities.

The activity involved 60 employees from the Emerging Markets team and members of the local administration, Glaeng District Volunteer Group and Ban Pe Botanical Garden in Rayong Province.

The volunteers collected 365 kilograms of mixed litter and waste from the shoreline during the day. The beach clean up followed Thai Union’s recent #GhostGearReborn diving campaign launched on World Ocean Day. The dive event, held off Koh Larn, was part of Thai Union's sustainability strategy SeaChange®, with an overarching objective that the seas are sustainable, now and for future generations.

Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources reported in 2015 that there are 10 million tons of waste across Thailand’s 23 coastal provinces. A beach clean up helps reduce the amount of plastic litter that enters the sea.

Sanjeev Pant, Managing Director – Emerging Markets, said:

“At Thai Union, we have embraced our role as a leader for positive change as one of the largest seafood companies in the world. Our SeaChange® strategy outlines that our responsible operations must contribute to broader societal change. We are very pleased that our employees have opportunities to work with local communities to help protect the environment.”
