5 JUNE 2017, BANGKOK — Thai Union Group PCL today released its annual Sustainability Report, publicly detailing the company’s performance from January through December 2016 against key performance indicators and targets outlined in SeaChange®, Thai Union’s sustainability strategy.

The report details how Thai Union’s strategic approach to sustainability is transforming the way the seafood industry operates worldwide. It covers the sustainability progress on Thai Union’s journey across every aspect of its business: from how the company looks after the oceans to how it manages waste; from the responsibility Thai Union takes for its workers to building brighter futures for communities where the company operates.

“Today, our world faces a range of sustainability challenges. The action we take will determine much about the type of world we inhabit tomorrow,” said Thiraphong Chansiri, Thai Union’s CEO. “Thai Union is determined to do its part to ensure that world is a brighter one. Thai Union has fully embraced its role as a leader for positive change as one of the largest seafood companies in the world. This means putting sustainability at the heart of our business.”

Thai Union’s Sustainability Report 2016 was prepared in accordance with the internationally recognized sustainability reporting guidelines known as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines G4 and its Food Processing Sector Supplement (FPSS). The report is in agreement with the GRI G4 Guidelines – Core option.

“Thai Union takes great pride in the transparency of its communications with stakeholders, customers and the industry,” said Darian McBain, Ph.D., Thai Union’s group director for sustainable development. “Transparency is vital so the global seafood industry knows what works as we move forward to combat global and regional issues – this report is an important part of that process.”

As a participant in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), this report also serves as Thai Union’s annual Communication on Progress (COP) to stakeholders. The COP reports the company’s progress in implementing the Ten Principles of the UNGC within Thai Union’s sphere of influence, as well as the company’s progress in supporting the environmental and social responsibilities of the broader UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report’s content has been reviewed and approved by the leadership of relevant business units at Thai Union.

"It has been a truly remarkable year for Thai Union, full of tremendous achievements in sustainability," said Chansiri. “Thai Union will continue to make progress and maintain unceasing focus on leveraging our leadership position and collective strengths to resolve the sustainability challenges confronting the global seafood industry.”

The Sustainability Report 2016 in English and Thai is now available in print and online as a PDF. Additionally, Thai Union will soon release an interactive version with videos and infographics for iBooks and Kindle.
