TUF Launches First "TUF Care Center" in Samut Sakhon

Bangkok, 16 August 2013 -- Thai Union Frozen Products PCL (TUF), Thailand's leading seafood producer and exporter, today launched the first TUF Care Center at Wat Sri Sutaram School in Samut Sakhon, which aims to provide a proper foundation in education for children of all nationalities in the local community.

Mr. Rittirong Boonmechote, Managing Director, Thai Union Frozen Products PCL, said "This milestone project will be an ongoing initiative, with the company pledging its support by investing 10THB million over the next five years into the development of similar projects across the province. TUF also plans to open a second Care Center later this year."

"At TUF, we have a number of sustainability initiatives. In addition to growing business and satisfy the needs of customers and consumers, we aim to make our society sustainable too. Social development and education support is one of the areas TUF is working on under our sustainability policy and we are excited to have embarked on such an extraordinary initiative with ‘TUF Care Center' that will have a positive impact on the quality of life for children of all backgrounds and nationalities in the Samut Sakhon area."

"As a global company with a workforce of more than 32,000 people around the world, we understand the significant effect a proper education and the opportunity to develop basic life skills can have on a child's future. We are proud that we are in a position to extend our support to the community by partnering with leading organizations in Samut Sakhon, which is the home base of our global business, who share our commitment to helping give children the strong start at life they deserve."

As part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability, TUF has collaborated with the Labor Rights Promotion Network (LPN) to establish the first TUF Care Centre. This is also in line with the human rights policy of Samut Sakhon Local Council. TUF aims to extend these relationships with key local organizations to provide services and facilities that help promote and protect human rights throughout its supply chain and across the country.

According to Mr. Supreecha Champasingha,  Principle of  Wat Sri Sutaram School, the new TUF Care Centre classroom and facilities provides space for language classes as well as fundamental subjects that will help the school's migrant children move into the Thai education system.

"Our school welcomes children of all nationalities, including a high number of migrant children in Samut Sakhon, and wants to provide good quality facilities and a strong educational program to help them get a good start at life regardless of their family background. We warmly welcome the assistance given to us by TUF and are very grateful they are looking at ways to support the local community and help improve the lives of its people," Mr Supreecha said.
