A commitment to sustainable tuna

Fish accounts for about 17 percent of animal protein consumed by the global population.

According to the United Nations, more than 7 million metric tons of tuna and tuna-like species are harvested every year, providing food security and nutrition, economic development, employment, government revenue, livelihoods, culture, and recreation. As one of the world’s largest canned tuna providers, Thai Union recognizes our responsibility to work to ensure that tuna stocks are healthy for generations to come.

Thai Union’s Tuna Commitment up to 2025 will be critical in ensuring the tuna we purchase moves towards higher levels of sustainability. Through this, we are not only bringing greater transparency to supply chains, but also tackling illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing practices and helping to drive best practice.

During 2021, we made solid progress on the commitment, both on the water and across areas such as tech innovation, policy, and in the markets. Our Tuna Commitment is also a crucial pillar in our commitment to Healthy Living, Healthy Oceans.
