12 JUNE 2018, SAMUT SAKHON, THAILAND - Many local student-athletes are eager to watch their favorite international stars when the 2018 World Cup kicks off later this week, but first some had the opportunity to take to the pitch at Mahachai Futsal Stadium with the pros from Samut Sakhon F.C. during a children’s football clinic co-organized by the club and Thai Union Group PCL.

More than 100 students from Luangpat Kosuluptam School, Wat Koh School and Wat Sirimongkol School in Samut Sakhon attended. Players and coaches emphasized the importance of physical education and nutrition for a healthy lifestyle, as well as conducted drills to boost the participants’ football skills and technique.

The three-hour clinic coincided with World Day Against Child Labor, which was launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in part to focus attention on how children who are free from the burden of child labor are better able to “fully realize their rights to education, leisure, and healthy development, in turn providing the essential foundation for broader social and economic development, poverty eradication, and human rights,” according to the United Nations.

In line with the company’s SeaChange® sustainability strategy, Thai Union funds pre-schools for children of local migrant workers at two of the participating schools, as well as provides educational supplies and other school materials for the pre-schools. Additionally, Thai Union is a corporate sponsor for Samut Sakhon F.C.

“At Thai Union, we take responsibility for improving the lives of those living and working where we operate,” said Dr. Darian McBain, Thai Union’s global director for sustainable development. “This was a great chance to promote the importance of exercise to a healthy lifestyle, plus the children thought it was pretty cool to meet some of their favorite Samut Sakhon F.C. players.”
