Européenne De La Mer announces intention to close its Plant in Dąbrowa Chełmińska, near Bydgoszcz in Poland

1st October, 2021 – Européenne De La Mer, a subsidiary of Thai Union Europe and a leading producer of salmon and smoked fish for the European and French markets, today announces its intention to close its plant in Dąbrowa Chełmińska, near Bydgoszcz, Poland.

This difficult decision was taken as, despite numerous reviews and investment, the plant is not competitive in relation to other players on the market. As a result, we continue to see heavy losses as a result of highly challenging market conditions and a lack of competitiveness with peers.

Our employees at Bydgoszcz are our primary consideration in this difficult situation. They were briefed this morning following our consultation with their employee representative and will be provided with all support to assist them throughout this process.

Throughout the process we will strictly adhere to adequate procedures, including in particular those related to labour market regulations. We are committed to the smooth consultation and implementation of solutions that will provide the best possible support to all our employees in this situation.

We are currently in the process of informing our valued customers and suppliers, as well as engaging further with community leaders and all relevant authorities.

The facility in Dąbrowa Chełmińska maintains a number of long-standing customer and supplier relationships, and we are committed to working closely with each of them in order to successfully deliver on our existing arrangements and to assist in a smooth transition, if need be, to alternative supply arrangements going forward.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding. In particular, we would like to thank our employees for their hard work and professionalism at this difficult time.
